What you may reuse and how
Not everything here carries the same terms. The writing and the cover images are yours to reuse with credit, the portrait only to refer to me, and the source code is open and has been from the start. This page says which is which. Each article repeats the terms for itself and for its cover in its own structured data, and every page repeats the portrait’s, so a machine does not have to read prose to find them.
Writing
Articles, and the documentation written for the tools on this site, are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license. Republish them, translate them, quote them at whatever length you need — in any medium, commercially or not — as long as you credit the author and indicate whether you changed anything.
Credit it to “José Manuel Requena Plens” and, where the medium allows a link, point that link at the page the text came from. No permission is needed.
Two things inside an article fall outside that. Material quoted from elsewhere — third-party code, command output, vendor logos and icons — belongs to whoever owns it, and this license does not reach it. Code written for the article itself, on the other hand, is freer than the prose around it: use the configuration, the commands and the snippets without attributing anything.
Covers
Every cover image on the blog was made for it, and the rights to it are mine. It is published under the same CC BY 4.0 license and on the same two conditions: credit, and a note of any change. Copy it, republish it, crop it, build on it, in any medium, commercially or not.
Portrait
The portrait used as this site’s avatar is not covered by the CC BY 4.0 license that covers the writing and the cover images. It is a photograph of me, the rights to it are mine, and it identifies a person rather than illustrating an article — which is exactly where unrestricted reuse does more harm than good.
Permission granted under CC BY 4.0 cannot later be withdrawn from a copy already taken under it. That is what the license is for, and it is why the portrait is kept outside it.
The portrait may be used to refer to me: an article about my work, a conference program, a directory entry, a talk announcement. It may not be used to represent anybody else or to suggest that I endorse a product or a position. Use it as it is, credited to me, and understand that this permission — unlike a CC BY grant — can be withdrawn.
Code
The source of this site and of the interactive tools it hosts is public and MIT-licensed. That license covers the components, the build pipeline and the tool code itself, but not the content it renders, which is governed by the sections above.
Permission
For anything the CC BY 4.0 grant and the MIT license do not cover — chiefly any use of the portrait beyond using it to refer to me — write to me directly.
